Your First 1,000 Fans: A Practical Roadmap for New Artists

The first thousand fans are the hardest. After that, word of mouth, algorithms and opportunities start working for you. Here is a roadmap to get there — built on consistency and real connections, not shortcuts.

Phase 1: Get ready (weeks 1–2)

• Define your sound in one sentence. “Melodic techno with vocal samples from old soul records.” It helps listeners, DJs and curators place you.
• Set up your profiles: SoundCloud, Spotify for Artists (once you release), Instagram, TikTok, YouTube.
• Consistent visuals: same profile picture and artist name everywhere.
• Create your Fangate account so every release has a gate, fanlink or pre-save ready.

Phase 2: Release and give (weeks 3–8)

• Release something every two weeks: an edit, an original, a mix.
• Use download gates asking for follow + repost + email.
• Post short videos of each release’s best moment.
• Target: your first 100 followers and 50 emails.

Phase 3: Plug into your scene (weeks 6–12)

• Collaborate: remix swaps, features, B2B mixes.
• Join communities: Discord servers, local collectives, producer groups.
• Send tracks to DJs who play your style.
• Go to shows and open decks nights. Real-life connections still matter a lot.

Phase 4: Deepen the relationship (month 3 onwards)

Phase 5: Your first streaming single with momentum
