Some of the biggest names in electronic music first got noticed through a clever edit or bootleg shared as a free download. It is a proven way to get heard — as long as you understand what you are doing.

## Edit, bootleg, remix: what’s the difference?

- **Edit:** a rearranged version of an existing track, often for DJ use (longer intro, different structure).
- **Bootleg:** an unofficial remix using parts of an existing track without permission.
- **Official remix:** commissioned or approved by the artist or label, with rights cleared.

- People search for tracks they already love. Your version shows up in those searches.
